About

The group was formed on Sunday 21st January 2018 by nine like minded individuals who wanted to travel to remote dark sites to image, observe or sketch the wonders of the night sky away from the light pollution of modern day UK surburbia.

Whilst our expedition to Observatorio del Teide in Tenerife is out first formal trip this year, many of us have been travelling to the Canary Islands for the past 5 years, both to Tenerife and the beautiful island of La Palma.

As a society we meet every couple of months, usually at a local establishment where we can enjoy a drink and talk through the up coming expedition.

We are very fortunate as a society to have a relationship with the MONS Observatory in Tenerife and are afforded visiting it at around 7,500ft above sea level. As a society we will travel to other locations both in the UK and abroad over the coming years. Members are not obliged to attend any of the trips, however as a very practical society we do and will spend much of our time learning how to observe the night sky with equipment from the simple ‘mark one eyeball’, the pencil and of course cameras and telescopes of different sorts.
